  7. time he retired in 1963, he had scored more 
  8. points than any other NBA player -- 19,249.

  10. Dolph played his first pro season for the 
  11. Syracuse Nationals of the National Basket-
  12. ball League in 1948-49. He won the Rookie
  13. of the Year award. (The next season, Syra-
  14. cuse became part of the NBA. The team
  15. later moved to Philadelphia and became the 
  16. 76ers.) Games were low-scoring back then, 
  17. but Dolph averaged 16.8 points per game.
